Gamestreet 1 - Building a Media Hub for Creative Companies

At Metropole, the idea has always been larger than office space.

What began in 2020 as a plan to build a 1,200 m² music studio on Brännkyrkagatan quickly evolved into something more ambitious. Founders Jimmy Åkerfors and Michel Fannoun saw the opportunity to create an entire ecosystem — a place where creators, studios, and companies could work side-by-side and grow together.

Six years later, that vision has expanded into six Metropole locations, including an international hub in Croatia. Today, the largest and most ambitious site is located at Magnus Ladulåsgatan 1 on Södermalm, known as GS1 — Gamestreet 1.

Here, Metropole is building what is less a traditional coworking space and more a living media hub for Stockholm’s creative industries.

Our environments are designed for creators, entrepreneurs, and teams who want more than an office. Places where creativity, business, and community move together — and where ideas grow through collaboration.

More Than Coworking — A Creative Media Environment

GS1 sits in one of the most game-dense districts in Scandinavia. Major studios such as Paradox, DICE, and Fatshark operate in the surrounding area, giving the neighborhood its nickname: Gamestreet.

Metropole positions itself as a natural meeting point for this creative ecosystem.

The building combines flexible offices, streaming studios, meeting rooms, gaming areas, and a public restaurant into one connected environment. The goal is not simply to provide desks — but to create a place where ideas move between companies and collaborations happen organically.

As Cesar Sierra, Head of Creative at Metropole, explains:

“The most important thing isn’t the room you sit in. It’s what happens when you walk into the building.”

A Community Designed to Create Business

Traditional coworking often focuses on amenities: coffee machines, shared desks, and square meters.

Metropole approaches the concept differently.

The focus is on community activation and business creation — creating situations where companies actually meet, collaborate, and generate projects together.

Within the GS1 building, tenants have access to spaces designed to spark interaction:

  • Podcast studios and content rooms

  • Streaming facilities and production environments

  • Event stages for launches and presentations

  • Gaming areas and F1 simulators

  • A cinema room and creative lounges

Regular activities — from breakfasts to after-works and internal pitch sessions — help tenants get to know each other and explore opportunities to collaborate.

The goal is simple: turn proximity into projects.

Three Principles Behind the Metropole Model

Three Principles Behind the Metropole Model

  1. Flexibility and Responsiveness: Companies grow and change quickly. Metropole operates with a high level of flexibility, adjusting spaces and agreements when tenants expand or face challenges

This adaptability helps companies stay within the ecosystem as they evolve.

  2. Community and Collaboration: Metropole actively connects the people in the building. Events, informal gatherings, and shared activities create opportunities for tenants to meet naturally.

Many companies recommend Metropole to peers in their network — a signal that the community itself generates value.

  3. Business Opportunities: One story illustrates how the ecosystem works. A production team once spent weeks working on a commercial project — only to discover near the end that the film crew, sound engineer, and editor were all tenants at Metropole, working in different parts of the building.

That kind of proximity is exactly what the concept aims to enable.

Where Creativity and Business Meet

At GS1, companies are present throughout the day — from early mornings to late evenings. The building is constantly active, making it easier for teams to connect, host meetings, or explore new collaborations.

For companies looking for more than just an office, the concept offers something else entirely: a creative environment where networks expand and new projects take shape.

As Cesar Sierra summarizes:

“If you’re a company that feels up-and-coming and wants to be somewhere you can create more business, grow your network, and be part of a creative community — then Metropole is the right place.”
